Sportswear, Ravewear, Denim: 2023 Fashion Trends

ANCUTA SARCA

The romanian born, London based designer specializes in upcycling nike shoes from charity shops and combines them with kitten heels. Sarca holds a Master's degree in Fashion from The Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca. Her venture into ready-to-wear shoes has landed her at the feet of many such as Bella Hadid, Rihanna and more.

In an interview with Vogue she states "What was so appealing to me was this idea of reclaiming the trainers (sneakers) by feminizing them and- "making them fashion" -so it's sportswear but not really". Sarca pushes the duality between athleticism and elegance and has interwoven two distinctly diffrent pieces into a unison of delight. 

 Each shoe is unique and one of one since the shoes are recycled. This not only creates an amazing sustainability model for the brand, but it also allows for there to be deeper meaning and uniqueness within her pieces.

Vetements/Balenciaga

While these two brands are notoriously known for their oversized, whacky looks, they too have taken their own twist on the athleticism trend. Logo branded jerseys seem to be on every major celebrities wardobe this year. With the likes of Kim Kardashian, and Rosalia rocking the sporty look, Tik Tok has branded the aesthetic #Bloquette. 

Blokette core

The term is used to describe the look of  hyper feminene colors and patterns (ribbons,lace, silk) and pairing it with a masculine-sporty counterpart (jersey, sneakers). The style rose about to fame predominatly in the British suburbs and has quickly garnered the attention of many. Bella Hadid is a style icon of many who are into this aesthetic as she is often seen wearing masculine and feminine contrasts. Ballet and soccer is the best way to think about it, flats and jerseys, leg warmers and cleats. It shows the duality of the softness of womanhood and the sporty nature of manlyhood.

Rave wear 

2023 was a big year for Acne Studios with its infamous alien-esque glasses being seen on every major celebrities eyes. 2023 was the year of rave wear, with it being one of the most searched Pinterest aesthetics of the year, mirrored sunglasses, euphoric makeup, and glitter mini skirts were the go to rave essential every party goer seemed to be rocking this year.

Denim 

Denim was a huge staple this year with Diesel's revival captivating the masses. Denim wear was seen hugely increase in popularity this year with the textile seeing a huge increase in the runway as well as on the streets.

DIESEL

The brands hertige runs deep in denim so its play on the textile always revamps its wearability. In their FW 23 show they played with sheer concepts which showed a more sexy side of denim, this played in perfectly with their theme of Sucsexful Living! which featured models strutting down a run way overflowing in condom wrappers. The technique consists of the pieces of denims seemingly falling apart almost apearing wet or as if frozen in place, being interwovenly perfectly with sheer texture.

EBDenim 

The It girl brand for denim, quickly rose to fame with the likes of Hailey Bieber, Lori Harvey and Taylor Swift seen frequently sporting their apperal. The brand is rooted in reworking denim and sourcing vintage Levis, with its speciality being the classic 501. Elena Bonvicini, the brands owner accredits her childhood thrifting in the midwest to the origins in her love for upcyling and denim. Metal embellishments, pattern patchwork, and form fitting silhouettes are the brands go to characteristics which have made them so popular amongst an ever growing and well established market that is the denim industry.
